Gigi Buffon enjoyed a relatively quiet night between the posts as Juventus delighted their home faithful with a comfortable 4-0 success over Danish champions Nordsjaelland.
The 34-year-old custodian was called into action just once throughout the course of the game, but shrugged off suggestions that his stop from Mitiliga’s deflected drive was anything but routine.
Addressing reporters in the mixed zone after the victory, Buffon said: “I got the gloves dirty, but it was a standard save. If I didn’t make it I should think about retiring.”
The goalkeeper was then asked for his reaction to Chelsea’s last-gasp winner at Stamford Bridge which keeps Juventus outside of the two qualifying spots in Group E.
“Little has changed in reality. We Italians are inclined to look at the results of others and consider them to be more important than our own. Instead the good thing is that we’re two games away from the end of the group stage and our destiny remains in our hands. If we do well we’ll go through, otherwise we’ll play in the Europa League.
“Chelsea have almost a decade’s worth of experience in playing these types of games. Shakhtar, with their individual brilliance combined with their team play, are more unpredictable and a tough prospect to face.”
